Dioecious rhizomatous, perennial, herb (sedge-like), 0.06-0.3 m high. Fl. brown, Sep to Oct. White, grey or brown sand over laterite. Dry heath & woodland.

Scientific Description

Rhizomes spreading, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, glossy, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) solid, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 70-270 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, glossy, striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex finely pointed, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences similar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 9.5-10 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, Outer bract 5-7.5 mm long, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Perianth glabrous. 1.8-3.3 mm long. Inner bract hairy, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 6-6.5 mm long. Filament 2.5-3.5 mm long. Anther 0.7-1.2 mm long. Female spikelet NaN (?) mm long. Inner bracts hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style one, arising centrally from the ovary apex. Fruit indehiscent (nut). Flowering Time September or October. Botanical Province South-West, IBRA Bioregions Geraldton Sandplain or Swan Coastal Plain.
