Densely tufted perennial, herb (sedge), 0.2-0.4 m high. Fl. red-brown/brown, Nov to Dec. Sand. Seasonally-wet flats.
Scientific Description
Rhizomes tufted, glabrous. Basal sheath hairy, glossy, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow at base only, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 380-440 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, not striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex finely pointed, hairy. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) Distinctly drooping, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 4-5 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 4.2-5 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 2.2-2.5 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Inner bract 4.2-4.5 mm long. Filament 0-0.2 mm long. Anther 0.8-1 mm long. Female spikelet 7-12 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Outer bract 3-4.3 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 3.2-5.2 mm long. Inner bracts 3-5.5 mm long, glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style one, arising centrally from the ovary apex. 4-6 mm long. Fruit indehiscent (nut). Flowering Time November or December.
