Rhizomatous, perennial, herb, 0.2-0.6 m high. Fl. green&red, Aug to Oct. Grey or black sand, clayey loam, laterite, granite. Granite outcrops, winter-wet swamps.
Scientific Description
Leaves flat, 70-280 mm long, 3-8 mm wide; bristles or hairs on the leaf margin present, 0.2-0.7 mm long, with at least some small side branches at the base, straight and rigid, diverging outward at around 90° or angled towards the leaf apex; hairs on the surface of the leaf present. Scape present, hairy, 250-635 mm long. Inflorescence subtended by a bract 15-30 mm long, with several flowers; floral bracts 8-12 mm long; pedicels present, 5-6 mm long; flowers 45-80 mm long. Perianth hairy, bilaterally symmetric, distinctly bicoloured, red and green, with six more or less equal tepals, the inner segments 7-10 mm long. Stamens six, in three levels, in pairs; filaments 2.5-4 mm long; anther 3.7-7.7 mm long, without an appendage. Style 40-65 mm long. Flowers in August, September or October. Occurs in the Geraldton Sandplains, Swan Coastal Plain, Avon Wheatbelt and Jarrah Forest IBRA bioregion(s), of the South-west Botanical Province.
