Rhizomatous, perennial, herb, 0.1-0.5 m high. Fl. green&red, Aug to Oct. White, pink, grey or black sand. Swamp flats, road verges.
Scientific Description
Leaves flat, 55-65 mm long, 1-4 mm wide; bristles or hairs on the leaf margin present, 0.4-0.7 mm long, with at least some small side branches at the base, straight and rigid, lying parallel with the margin; hairs on the surface of the leaf absent (leaf surfaces glabrous). Scape present, hairy, 300-405 mm long. Inflorescence subtended by a bract 10-14 mm long, with several flowers; floral bracts 12-14 mm long; pedicels present, 4-6 mm long; flowers 50-70 mm long. Perianth hairy, bilaterally symmetric, distinctly bicoloured, red and green, with six more or less equal tepals, the inner segments 7-11 mm long. Stamens six, in three levels, in pairs; filaments 3.5-7 mm long; anther 4-5 mm long, without an appendage. Style 50-70 mm long. Flowers in August, September or October. Occurs in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Warren and Esperance IBRA bioregion(s), of the South-west Botanical Province.
