Open, multi-stemmed shrub, to 1.5 m high. Fl. orange/yellow & purple/red, Aug to Oct. Deep yellow sand, yellow to brown sandy clay, gravel, granite. Broad sand dunes, around rocks, undulating plains.
Scientific Description
Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, continuous with stem, 15-40 mm long, 1.2-1.6 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, revolute; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 3-4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 4.5-8 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10-16 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or orange, with some yellow or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 11-15 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 10-14 mm long, auriculate, keel 10-11.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.8-1.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 10.2-11.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 9.5-14 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August, September and October. Occurs in the Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Three (P3).
