Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

The notice period started at 9:45 am on Friday, 12 December 2025 +08:00 and will end at 12:00 pm on Monday, 2 March 2026 +08:00.

Erect or spreading to prostrate annual (ephemeral), herb, 0.07-0.8 m high. Fl. blue-purple-yellow, Jan to May. Cracking black clay. Seasonally wet areas.

Scientific Description

Stems unribbed. Leaves flat, 30-65 mm long, 2-6 mm wide, Indumentum present, simple hairs; margins entire or toothed. Bracteoles absent. Pedicel pedicellate, Pedicel length the pedicels 15-50 mm long, Indumentum present or glabrous, Hair type with simple hairs. Calyx lobes present, Calyx length 3-4.2 mm long, hairy, with sparse, simple hairs. Corolla yellow or mauve, 10-17 mm long, auriculate, not spurred, hairy on the outside, with sparse, glandular hairs, glabrous on the inside; central lobes 3.5-5.5 mm long, with wings; outer lobes 5.7-9 mm long, wing present on both sides and clearly unequal, 0.3-1.7 mm wide on the narrower side, 0.6-2 mm wide on the broader side. Anthers free. Ovary inferior, not gibbose; style 6-9 mm long, rarely hairy; indusium single, rarely hairy; ovules more than two. Flowers in January, February, March, April and May. Occurs in the Victoria Bonaparte (VB), Northern Kimberly (NK) and Central Kimberly (CK) IBRA Region(s), of the Northern (N) Botanical Province. Conservation Code: Conservation code Priority One (P1).
