Annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), c. 0.025 m high, spikelets squarrose, glumes with an awn at least as long as its body; stamens 1-2; style 3-branched. Fl. green, Nov. Winter-wet clay flats.

Notes. Forms dense monspecific stands. Becoming increasingly common in clay-based wetlands on the eastern side of the Swan Coastal Plain. Could pose a major threat to wetland habitats throughout Western Australia.

Suggested method of management and control. Try spot spraying 10 ml/L glyphosate while plants are actively growing. Use Roundup Biactive® where surface water is present. Read the manufacturers' labels and material safety data sheets before using herbicides.
