Dense, intricate, divaricately branched shrub, 0.4-2 m high. Fl. red-brown. Yellow sand, sometimes with outcropping laterite. Low rises, flats.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 10-80 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-1.8 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 2-2.5 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6-6.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or brown, with some red or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 4-4.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 4-4.2 mm long, not auriculate, keel 4-4.2 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.1-0.2 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3-4 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 3-3.5 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 9-10 mm long, 9-10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in July and August. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
