Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Slender or straggling shrub, 0.2-1 m high, leaves simple, erect, sub-orbicular, 2-3 mm long. Fl. pink & white, Mar to Sep or Nov to Dec. Over granite or limestone or in heavy soil.

Scientific Description

Shrub, Spines absent, surface smooth, without distinct raised glands, cross-section +/- cylindrical. Indumentum Presence covered in hairs or scales, Type stellate (star shaped) hairs. Leaves Position opposite, Indumentum glabrous, Complexity simple, Cross section of leaves or leaflets flat, Margins flat, Surface smooth, without distinct raised glands, Stipular excrescences absent. Length mm long 2-2.5. Width mm wide 1.2-1.5. Inflorescences flowers in axillary, loose clusters (cymes or panicles). Pedicel length mm long 1-3. Calyx Presence present. Indumentum Presence covered in hairs or scales, Type stellate (star shaped) hairs. Length mm long 2-3. Corolla lobes Colour pink or white or cream, Number four, Petals valvate (meeting edge to edge) not valvate (overlapping), Corolla lobes (fused into tube) not connate, Prominent raised glands absent. Indumentum Presence hairy on the margins only. Length mm long 3.5-6.5. Stamens Number twice as many as petals. Filaments Surface smooth. Indumentum Presence glabrous. Length mm long 1.5.
