Erect, spindly annual, herb, 0.2-0.6 m high. Fl. yellow/orange & red, Apr to Oct. Sandy soils, clay, stony skeletal soils, granite, sandstone. Rocky sites, hills, plains, river banks, drainage lines & irrigated areas.
