Rhizomatous, tufted perennial, herb (sedge-like), 0.25-1.4 m high, culms 1-1.5 mm diam. at base; female spikelets 1-3-flowered, glumes scarcely overlapping; tepals 6. Sand or peat. Swamps and along stream banks.
