Rhizomatous, erect perennial, herb, 0.3-1.5 m high, male spikelets on long slender stalks; female spikelets 1-8-flowered, flowers with 2 style branches. Fl. brown, Jan or Mar or Jul to Nov. Peaty sand. Wet or seasonally wet sites.
