Rhizomatous, erect perennial, herb, to 0.5 m high. Fl. brown, Sep to Oct. Sand. Low rises & undulating areas.
Scientific Description
Rhizomes tufted, hairy. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 245-600 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) spreading, dull, striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex elongated, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences similar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms branched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 3-6 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 1.5-2 mm long, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 2.5-2.7 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Inner bract 2-2.8 mm long. Filament 1-1.5 mm long. Anther 1.3-1.5 mm long. Female spikelet 5-6 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Outer bract 2.5-3.5 mm long. Perianth hairy. 3-4.5 mm long. Inner bracts 3-4.5 mm long, glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Style two (or two-branched). 3-4 mm long. Fruit bilocular (capsule).
