Tussock-forming perennial, grass-like or herb, 0.5-1.3 m high, spikelet loosely flowered, with 3-4 fertile florets, lemma bi-textured, pubescent. Fl. Jul to Oct. Skeletal soils, red sand, sandy loam. Rocky hillslopes, dunes, plains.
