Tussock-forming perennial, grass-like or herb, 0.6-2 m high, plant robust, densely woolly, panicle and blade extremely long, lemma 3-lobed and 3-awned. Fl. brown-red, Jul to Nov. Red or yellow sand, sandy loam. Red sand dunes, sandplains.
