Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Erect, sometimes leafless shrub, 0.3-1 m high, leaves elliptic to suborbicular. Fl. white-pink/purple-blue, Mar or Jul to Sep. Red sandy clay or loam. Rocky hills.

Scientific Description

Shrub, spines absent; branchlets verrucose (warty), +/- cylindrical in cross-section, covered in hairs or scales, the hairs stellate (star-shaped). Leaves alternate, simple, 1.5-2.5 mm long, 1 mm wide, terete, verrucose (warty), glabrous. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicels 1 mm long; calyx present, 1 mm long, smooth, without distinct raised glands, covered in hairs or scales, the hairs stellate (star-shaped); corolla pink, purple, white or cream or blue, petals five, 5-6.5 mm long, imbricate (overlapping), free, lepidote (with scales); stamens twice as many as petals, 2-3 mm long, smooth, ciliate (with a marginal fringe of hairs); anthers 0.7-0.8 mm long, with an appendage. Flowers in March, July, August and September. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Yalgoo, Murchison and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA region(s).
