Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Low, multi-stemmed, spreading to weakly erect shrub, 0.15-0.5 m high. Fl. purple-red, Dec or Jan to Mar. Sandy loam, sandstone. Level sites near ridges.

Scientific Description

Shrubs, 0.30-0.50 m high; branchlets hairy, not glaucous. Leaves alternate, (30-)50-90(-100) mm long, (8-)20-25(-40) mm wide, hairy, on the abaxial surface, the hairs curled; lamina flat, clearly widest above the middle, once divided, shallowly divided; lobes 1-5 mm long, 3-8 mm wide, the margins flat. Inflorescences terminal, red. Perianth hairy, simple-hairy; ovary glabrous, stipitate, the stipe 1-1.5 mm long; pistil 33-40 mm long, red or purple, pollen presenter erect, style hairy. Follicles not viscid, dehiscent, 1 mm long. Flowers in January, February, March or December. Occurs in the Northern (N) Botanical Province(s), in the Northern Kimberley (NK) IBRA subregion(s). : Conservation code Priority Two (P2).
