Erect, caespitose rhizomatous, perennial, grass-like or herb (sedge), to 0.3 m high. Fl. green-brown, Jun or Oct to Dec or Jan to Feb. Sand, sometimes saline, silt, black peaty loam, sandy clay over granite. Estuarine areas, seasonal swamps, seepage lines, foredune flats.
