Prostrate to erect shrub, to 2 m high. Fl. orange-yellow/red, Feb or May or Jul to Dec. Black/white peaty sand, sandy clay loam, gravel, granite, quartzite. Rocky outcrops, moss swards, coastal wetlands, swamps, creekbanks.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 10-25 mm long, 2-5 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins or flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves or present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 4-5 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles present and persistent, 0.7-1 mm long, glabrous, not striate. Calyx 5-6.4 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10-11.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 9-10 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 9-9.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 7-7.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4-0.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.7-5.4 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 5-5.2 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in February, May, July, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Warren, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
