Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. The Herbarium team, working with the Biodiversity Information Office, now have the Nomos-hosted WACensus in production, and we will begin to update the flora and fungi for WA within the system soon. The Specify project team continues to test and streamline the new collections management system, and we expect this to be online in October. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Scientific Description

Trees, 1.5-6 m high; branchlets glabrous or hairy. Leaves alternate, (70-)95-235 mm long, 3.5-26 mm wide, glabrous; lamina flat, widest around the middle, entire. Inflorescences axillary, red or pink; pedicels 3-6 mm long. Perianth 5-7 mm long, glabrous; ovary glabrous; pistil 15-18 mm long, pollen presenter erect, style glabrous. Follicles 15-26 mm long, 12-18 mm wide, corky tetrahedral projections (on external surfaces of fruit) absent; seed 14-22 mm long (including wing), 7-12.5 mm wide, the wing discontinuous, marginal, extending down one lateral side only. Flowers in June, July, August or September. Occurs in the Eremaean (ER) or South-west (SW) Botanical Province(s), in the Coolgardie (COO), Avon Wheatbelt (AW), Jarrah Forest (JF), Mallee (MAL) or Esperance Plains (ESP) IBRA subregion(s).
