Caespitose perennial, herb, 0.05-0.3 m high, Leaves tufted, linear, 2.5-12 cm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, apex obtuse to blunt, margin entire, glabrous. Scape glabrous. Inflorescence paniculate. Fl. orange-yellow, Oct to Dec. Grey, yellow or brown clay, grey sandy clay, brown clayey loam, red loam, gravel, granite. Winter-wet flats, runoff areas around rock outcrops, hillslops, swamp margins, near rivers.
