Perennial, twining herb, to 2 m high. Brown loam and clay soils, grey loamy sand, ironstone gravel, granite. Interdunal flats, low slopes, steep slopes of embankments, headlands, hills.

General Biology. Growth form. Geophyte. Life form. Perennial rhizome/tuber. Reproduction. Primarily seed, occasionally rhizome/tubers. Dispersal. Birds, water, soil. Seedbank persistence. Medium, 1-5 years. Fire response. Generally survives fire.

Notes. Under suitable conditions can grow actively throughout the year.

Additional information. Origin. South Africa. History of use/introduction. Garden escape.

Suggested method of management and control. Try 100 ml glyphosate + 0.2 g metsulfuron methyl + Pulse® in 15 L water or 2.5 - 5g /ha + Pulse®. Best results when flowering.
