Dioecious shrub or tree, to 15 m high, bark dark brown, fissured. Alluvium, loams, heavy clay, coastal sands and soils derived from granite, limestone, laterite, quartz. Calcareous dunes, vine thickets, edges of creeks, floodplain margins, in gorges, at base of cliffs.
