Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thallus greyish green, hemispherical or irregularly shaped, often flattened, very tough, to 15 mm in diameter, composed of large cells 1–1.5 mm in diameter, solid when mature. Adjacent cells attached to one another by rows of markedly smaller hapteroid cells at segment junctions. Spinulose trabeculae present on the inner cells walls.

Distribution. Widely distributed in the tropical Indo-Pacific. In W. Aust. south to the Houtman Abrolhos.

Habitat. Epilithic in the intertidal and shallow subtidal, often in small clusters.
