Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. The project team is now conducting testing of the migrated data, and a further update will be provided by the end of the financial year (1 July). Prostrate annual, herb, leaves 5-75 mm, leaves 1-30 mm wide; spike pink-mauve, hemispherical, to ovoid, 15-40 mm long, 20-32 mm wide; bract 5.9-7.3 mm long; bracteole 6-7 mm long; tepals 12-14.5 mm long; 2 fertile stamens 3 staminodes; ovary hairy; style curved 3.8-4.7 mm long, eccentrically fixed to ovary. Fl. pink, Jun to Aug. Red loam. Open mulga woodlands.

Scientific Description

Perennial herbs, stems several, more or less erect, glabrescent, with verticillate hairs. Leaves present, 5-75 mm long, 1-30 mm wide, glabrescent or glabrous, with verticillate hairs; basal rosette present; cauline leaves alternate. Spikes pink, ovoid or cylindrical, clustered, with densely arranged flowers. Bracts 5.9-7.3 mm long, colourless, hairy, awned or mucronate, with a prominent midrib. Bracteoles 6-7 mm long, colourless, hairy, awned or mucronate, with a prominent midrib. Outer tepals 12.5-14.5 mm long, not entire. Inner tepals 11-13 mm long, with a basal tuft of hairs on inner face. Style 3.8-4.7 mm long, curved, obliquely fixed to ovary. Seeds 1.5-1.7 mm long, glossy, black. Distribution: Eremaean Botanical Region; IBRA regions: Central Ranges, Great Victoria Desert.
