Erect or open annual, herb, to 0.6 m high, leaves linear-lanceolate, 5-80 mm long, 1-10 mm wide; spike purple, pink, white, ovoid-cylindrical, 5-30 mm long, 6-15 mm wide; bract 2-2.5 mm long; bracteole 2.6-3 mm long; tepals 4-6 mm long; 5 fertile stamens; ovary hairy; style straight, 1.6-2.2 mm long, centrally fixed to ovary. Fl. white-pink-purple-cream, Mar to Jul. Rocky loam, sandy and clayey soils. Low ridges.
Scientific Description
Annuals, stems several, more or less erect, glabrous. Leaves present, 5-80 mm long, 1-10 mm wide, glabrous; basal rosette absent; cauline leaves alternate. Spikes pink, ovoid or cylindrical, clustered, with densely arranged flowers. Bracts 2-2.5 mm long, colourless, hairy, awned or mucronate, with a prominent midrib. Bracteoles (2.6-)2.8-3 mm long, colourless, hairy, awned or mucronate, with a prominent midrib. Outer tepals 4-5(-6) mm long, entire. Inner tepals 4-5(-6) mm long, with a basal tuft of hairs on inner face. Style (1.6-)1.7-1.9(-2.2) mm long, straight, centrally fixed to ovary. Seeds 1-1.1 mm long, glossy, brown. Distribution: Northern Botanical Region; IBRA regions: Central Kimberley, Dampierland, Northern Kimberley, Ord Victoria Plains, Victoria Bonaparte.
