Scientific Description
Habit and structure. Thallus tufted, to 5 mm tall, with prostrate and irregularly constricted siphons 50–75 μm diam., attached by tapering rhizoids 8–20 μm diam.; erect siphons terete, 17–25 μm diam. Branches 50–900 μm long, more elongate distally, evenly constricted at branch bases and often with slight constrictions elsewhere. Siphons with numerous spherical to ellipsoidal chloroplasts and amyloplasts 2–3 μm diam. Walls of lower siphons with faint striations. Zoidangia forming as inflated tips of lateral siphons near base, spherical to clavate, 50–75 μm diam.
Distribution. Known from Indonesia and northern W.A., but other species from elsewhere might be synonymous.
Habitat. Epiphytic on Avicennia marina pneumatophores in the intertidal.
