Scientific Description
Habit and structure. Thallus green, stiff, erect (but lying prostrate when exposed), tufted, to 5.5 cm in length, composed of clustered unbranched filaments. Basal cell clavate, formed from fusion of original basal cell with distal cells, slightly annulate and sometimes curved, to 6 mm long and 500 µm in diameter, other cells cylindrical, 400–500 µm in diameter, L:B 1.5–2.5.
Distribution. Widespread in tropical seas, extending to the subtropics.
