Scientific Description
Habit and structure. Thallus medium green to dark green, glossy, to 5 cm tall, irregularly sprawling or forming hemispherical hummocks. Filaments irregularly branched, mostly from the distal region of subtending cells, occasionally lower; segments 3–7 mm long and 1–2 (–3) mm diam.
Distribution. Widespread in warmer seas, including eastern Australian waters, rare in north western Australia. This species can form dense populations of unattached thalli in Italian lagoons.
Habitat. Epilithic.
