Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 30-80 mm long, 5-14 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules 3 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 1.5-4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent or present but early deciduous, 1.7-2 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 6.5-10 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 12-19 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or orange, with some red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 10.5-16.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 10-14.5(-14.6) mm long, not auriculate, keel 10-12.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3-8.6 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 5-10.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 17-20 mm long, 4-5 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
