Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 8-25 mm long, 1.3-1.5 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 8-15 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 3.4-5 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8.5-11 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or red, with some yellow or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8.2-9 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 7.4-8 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6.5-8.5 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4-0.7 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7.5-9.2 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 9-10 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 11-15 mm long, 6-10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in May. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Two (P2).
