Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 10-12 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 6.5-7.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 5-8.2 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10-13 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or purple, with some yellow, red or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8-10.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 8-9 mm long, not auriculate, keel 9-9.5 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7-9 mm long. Ovary stipitate, glabrous; style 7-9 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 15 mm long, 8 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Warren and Esperance IBRA regions.
