Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or in the census. We are hoping to be able to reinstate services around December 15; we will provide an update at that time.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 45-65 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, leaflets 5-13, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 2-3.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent. Calyx 3.5-5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 7-9.5 mm long, uniformly coloured, pink; claws present; standard 6-8.6 mm long, hairy at least in part, not auriculate, wings 6-8.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten; anthers 0.2-0.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 5.5-7.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 5-6.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 40-52 mm long, 4-5 mm wide, stipitate, constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in February, May, June and July. Occurs in the Northern and Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Pilbara, Northern Kimberley, Central Kimberley, Ord-Victorian-Plain and Dampierland IBRA regions.
