Erect or spreading to prostrate shrub, 0.1-2.5 m high. Fl. yellow & orange/red, Jan to Mar or Jun or Aug or Oct to Dec. Sandy soils. Coastal areas, sand dunes, seasonally-wet areas.
Scientific Description
Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), alternate, not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, 0.5-2; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent. Calyx 10.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 6.2-6.8 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 7.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 13-15 mm long, 5-6 mm wide, stipitate or sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in January, February, March, June, August, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Warren, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
