Management Notes (for the Swan NRM Region)

General Biology. Growth form. Grass. Life form. Perennial, caespitose. Reproduction. Seed. Dispersal. Wind, ants. Photosynthetic Pathway. C3.

Notes. Also naturalised in South Australia. Most common in disturbed or open sites, including remnant grassy woodlands. Often occurs in much higher densities than native grasses, resulting in reduction or complete loss of the inter-tussock spaces.

Additional information. Origin. South Africa.

Suggested method of management and control. Cut out small plants, avoiding excess soil disturbance. Spray with grass selective herbicide or glyphosate when actively growing. For large infestations slash/brushcut in mid spring/early summer before seed matures to reduce seed set. Read the manufacturers' labels and material safety data sheets before using herbicides. For further information consult the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority to determine the status of permits for your situation or state.
