Scientific Description
Shrub or tree. Stems hairy. Leaves 60-100 mm long, 30-70 mm wide, not lobed; margins crenate or dentate; indumentum present, with stellate hairs; stipules present but early deciduous (only visible on youngest leaves). Perianth clearly of two whorls (calyx and corolla), the corolla obvious and prominent. Pedicel present, 15-45 mm long; indumentum present, with stellate hairs. Epicalyx (extra segments or 'bracteoles' immediately below the calyx) present, 11-12 mm long, the lobes free, indumentum present, stellate hairs present. Calyx green, 25-26 mm long, the lobes fused less than half their length, stellate hairs present. Corolla white or mauve, 36-46 mm long, glabrous. Stamens many, united and arising from a staminal tube around the style; filaments present, 1.3-1.5 mm long; anthers 0.7-1 mm long. Ovary hairs and scales absent (ovary quite glabrous); style 1, 17-20 mm long, with five style branches or lobes, mostly glabrous. Flowering time August.
