Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. The Herbarium team, working with the Biodiversity Information Office, now have the Nomos-hosted WACensus in production, and we will begin to update the flora and fungi for WA within the system soon. The Specify project team continues to test and streamline the new collections management system, and we expect this to be online in October. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Scientific Description

Shrub, spines absent; branchlets verrucose (warty), +/- cylindrical in cross-section, covered in hairs or scales. Leaves opposite, simple, 10-25 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, flat, the margins recurved, covered in hairs or scales, with peltate (umbrella-like) scales; stipular excrescences absent. Flowers in terminal, loose clusters (cymes or panicles); pedicels 5-9 mm long; calyx present, 1-2 mm long, smooth, without distinct raised glands, glabrous or covered in hairs or scales; corolla white or cream, petals five, 5-6 mm long, imbricate (overlapping), free, lepidote (with scales); stamens twice as many as petals, 3-5.5 mm long, smooth, glabrous; anthers 1-1.2 mm long, without an appendage; style 5 mm long, glabrous. Flowers in August and September. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Yalgoo, Coolgardie, Mallee and Esperance IBRA region(s).
