Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thalli isolated or rarely of clustered filaments, unbranched, slightly arching, epiphytic, to 350 µm long, attached to the host by a gelatinous basal pad, rarely with additional cells at the base. Cells 5.0–7.5 µm diam. near the base [L:B 1.5–2], to 12 μm diam. distally [L:B c. 3], with 1 (–4) pyrenoids. Reproduction not observed, but several filaments with empty apical cells were seen, suggesting these had functioned as sporangia.

Distribution. Occurs in southern and western Australia, Lord Howe Island, the Great Barrier Reef, Micronesia and the Hawaiian Islands.
