Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thallus minute, bright green, endophytic in the walls of larger algae, of irregularly branched prostrate filaments to 200 µm long. Filaments generally remaining free, rarely forming a loose pseudoparenchyma. Cells mostly subisodiametric, squarish to rectangular in outline, mostly 10–15 µm diam., but some cells in actively growing regions more slender (c. 5 µm diam.). Cells with a parietal chloroplast and 1 or 2 pyrenoids. Hairs not observed.

Distribution. Recorded from most seas, but requiring confirmation.

Habitat. Endophytic in the cell walls of a variety of algae.
