Scientific Description
Habit and structure. Thallus discoid to subcircular, to 350 μm diam., occasionally fusing with adjacent thalli, composed of rounded to angular central cells surrounded by coalesced radiating branched filaments. Cells becoming elongate towards the smooth margin, mostly 10–20 μm long [L:B 1–3], with 0–4 pyrenoids.
Distribution. Widespread in most seas.
Habitat. Growing on a range of substrata.
