Scientific Description

Rhizomes spreading, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 390-650 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, striate, glabrous. Apex elongated, hairy. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) Distinctly drooping, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 4-5.5 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 2.2-3 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex obtuse. Perianth glabrous. 1.8-2.4 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex obtuse. Inner bract 2-2.5 mm long. Filament 0-0.1 mm long. Anther 1-1.3 mm long. Female spikelet 2.5-3.7 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex obtuse. Outer bract 2-2.2 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 1.4-2.5 mm long. Inner bracts 1.7-2.7 mm long, glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex obtuse. Style three (or three-branched). 1.6-2.3 mm long. Fruit indehiscent (nut). Flowering Time January, February, November or December.
