General Biology. Growth form. Shrub. Reproduction. Easily propopogated from seed and cuttings. Very high seed production.. Dispersal. Spread by birds.. Fire response. Fire promotes seed germination..
Notes. Erect to spreading shrub growing from 1.5 to 4 metres tall. The foliage is evergreen, leathery, sticky and spoon shaped. flowers are inconspicuous, with no petals. These flowers occur during spring and summer and are less than a centimetre in size..
Additional information. Origin. Central Australia and parts of Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. History of use/introduction. Native in areas, spread outside it's natural occurance..
Suggested method of management and control. Hand pulling effective for small seedlings. Glyphosate applied to cut stump. Basal Bark -Useful on stems less than 20cm diameter. Spray lower 60cm of bark with Triclopyr and penetrant (usually diesel). Spray foilage with Metsulforun methyl .5g/10l Pulse Hopbush should be controlled before the end of winter or before its annual seed set, so the seed bank is not replenished. Read the manufacturers' labels and material safety data sheets before using herbicides.
