Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thallus erect, c. 5.5 cm tall, dark olive-green, solitary. Stipe terete, c. 3.6 cm long and 6 mm diam., bearing a flattened subcircular spongy blade. Structure of blade multistratose, with interwoven siphons 25–55 µm diam., irregularly dichotomously branched, with shallow constrictions at the dichotomies; mid-thallus and distal siphons moniliform. Plastids spherical, 3–4 µm diam., each with a pyrenoid.

Distribution. Widespread in tropical seas.

Habitat. Known from sandy substrata in the subtidal.
