Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. The project team is now conducting testing of the migrated data, and a further update will be provided by the end of the financial year (1 July). Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 8-20 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire. Calyx 8-9 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs. Corolla 12 mm long, multicoloured, orange, mostly red; claws present; standard 10-12 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 8-10.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 10-12 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens; anthers NaN (?) mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 10-11 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 20-25 mm long, 9-10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in July, August and September. Occurs in the Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Gascoyne and Little Sandy Desert IBRA regions.
