Scientific Description
Habit and structure. Thallus arising from a single thick-walled cell, presumably the original spore, without a prostrate system. Erect axes straight, irregularly secundly branched, with terete cells 7–12 µm diam. [L:B 3–5]. Plastids single, parietal, lobed, with a prominent pyrenoid.
Reproduction. Monosporangia mostly pedicellate, occasionally sessile, sometimes in short series of 2 or 3 sporangia, ellipsoidal, 18–20 µm long and 9–14 µm diam.
Distribution. Widespread in tropical seas.
Habitat. Epiphytic on Sargassum.
