Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thallus light pink, to 3 cm tall, caespitose or forming spherical clumps on other algae, mostly regularly dichotomously branched; successive dichotomies decussate or (rarely) complanate, with 1–4 (–8) intergenicula between dichotomies. Intergenicula terete, 80–150 μm diam., (rarely to 240 μm in distal parts of basal intergenicula subtending dichotomies), 340–750 μm long, shorter, narrower and more divaricate near the apices. Tetrasporangial conceptacles to 300–390 μm diam., with 2 surmounting branchlets. Tetrasporangia 140–200 μm long, 40–60 μm diam.

Distribution. Widespread in tropical and subtropical seas.

Habitat. Epiphytic or epilithic in the intertidal and subtidal.
