Rhizomatous, perennial, herb or (fern), 0.4-20 m high, fronds 1-pinnate; rhizome climbing or scrambling; sporangia covering lower surface of pinnae. Fl. May or Jul to Aug. Black peat or clay. Vine thickets, sandstone rock faces, swamps, fringing creeks.
