Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or in the census. We are hoping to be able to reinstate services around December 15; we will provide an update at that time.

Erect, woody perennial, herb or shrub, 0.25-0.6 m high, stems prominently ribbed. Fl. blue-purple, Jun or Aug to Dec or Jan. White/grey or yellow sand. Sandplains.

Scientific Description

Stems ribbed. Leaves flat, 7-30 mm long, 1-6 mm wide, Indumentum absent (leaves glabrous) or present, with dense, simple hairs; margins entire. Bracteoles absent. Pedicel pedicellate, Pedicel length the pedicels 5-15 mm long, Indumentum present, Hair type with dendritic hairs. Calyx lobes present, Calyx length 0-0.5 mm long, hairy, with dense, dendritic hairs. Corolla white, blue or pink, 12-15 mm long, auriculate, not spurred, hairy on the outside, with dense, dendritic hairs, glabrous on the inside; central lobes 6-7 mm long, with wings; outer lobes 7-9.5 mm long, wing present on both sides and clearly unequal, 0.5-1.3 mm wide on the narrower side, 0.8-2.5 mm wide on the broader side. Anthers connate. Ovary inferior, not gibbose; style 2.5-4.5 mm long, glabrous; indusium single, hairy; ovules one or two. Flowers in January, June, July, August, September, November and December. Occurs in the Coolgardie (COO), Geraldton Sandplains (GS), Swan Coastal Plain (SWA) and Avon Wheatbelt (AW) IBRA Region(s), of the Eremaean (E) and South West (SW) Botanical Province.
