Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

The notice period started at 9:45 am on Friday, 12 December 2025 +08:00 and will end at 12:00 pm on Monday, 2 March 2026 +08:00.

Erect, much-branched shrub, 0.15-0.6 m high, with thick, narrow, often terete leaves. Fl. blue/purple, Aug to Nov. Sandy & clayey soils. Sandplains, winter-wet depressions, slopes.

Scientific Description

Stems unribbed. Leaves compressed or flat, 4-25 mm long, 1-1.3 mm wide, Indumentum absent (leaves glabrous) or present, with dense or sparse, dendritic hairs; margins entire. Bracteoles present, 0.8-2 mm long, hairy, with hairy hairs. Pedicel pedicellate, Pedicel length the pedicels 2-7.5 mm long, Indumentum present, Hair type with dendritic hairs. Calyx lobes present, Calyx length 0.8-1 mm long, hairy, with dense, dendritic hairs. Corolla blue, 9-16 mm long, auriculate, not spurred, hairy on the outside, with dense, dendritic hairs, glabrous on the inside, with wings, 1.5-3 mm wide, wing present on both sides and clearly unequal. Anthers connate. Ovary inferior, not gibbose; style 3-3.2 mm long, glabrous; indusium single, glabrous; ovules one or two. Flowers in August, September, October and November. Occurs in the Geraldton Sandplains (GS), Swan Coastal Plain (SWA), Avon Wheatbelt (AW) and Jarrah Forest (JF) IBRA Region(s), of the South West (SW) Botanical Province.
