Tufted annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.02-0.35 m high, spikelets usually few to many in a head, rarely solitary; stamens 1(-2). Fl. brown, Feb to Sep. Red, yellow or grey sand, loam, sandstone, alluvium, granite. Rock crevices, margins of watercourses, low-lying flats.
